Students in WWYC explore child development theorists and theories, child development milestones from pre-birth through preschool, components of a quality early childhood environment, and ways to promote healthy relationships. Careers in an early childhood setting are explored. Areas of study include, but are not limited to, child growth and development, safety and health, the learning environment, relationships, pregnancy and prenatal care, and career readiness.
Students work 3 days a week in our onsite occupational training preschool laboratory during class time. The preschool accepts 20 community and staff/faculty children each year to participate in the program. Over the course of the year students gain experience in planning & teaching developmentally appropriate learning experiences, providing child guidance, and applying concepts learned in class to a real world setting providing students with relevant learning experiences!
